English teacher Christine Coffey got a surprise visit at her class, October 3, when KNIX Radio and Fulton Homes awarded her with the Teacher of the Week award. Coffey received $300 from Fulton Homes, a classroom wall clock to commemorate the honor, and a goodie bag from the Dairy Council of Arizona. Coffey will be featured on the KNIX website, and on the morning show, October 12. Another Coffey, Carolyn Coffey (no relation), the KNIX morning show personality, presented Christine with the award. Coffey was nominated by fellow English teacher Charlene Cunningham, who wrote a glowing nomination letter, citing her efforts to push students to new levels in reading and writing for AIMS and Advanced Placement English testing, including tutoring and practice testing on Saturdays.
“She goes out of her way to ensure that our young people have what they need for success both in and outside the classroom, “Cunningham wrote. “ Chris is also a mentor to her fellow teachers and is always happy to share her wealth of knowledge with all teachers on campus.
Coffey teaches sophomore Honors English, and Advanced Placement English.
