Back to School Letter from Mr. Kemp

    July 27, 2017

    Dear Phoenix Students,

Happy new school year to you all. My name is Eric D. Kemp and I am your principal here at the Linda Abril Educational Academy. I am humbled and honored to be your principal. I may be new to LAEA but I am not new to working with students.  I am entering my twenty-fourth year as an educator. I taught social studies, coached a variety of sports, and sponsored many student clubs for thirteen years before becoming an administrator. If I look familiar to some of you, maybe it is because I was an assistant principal for ten years combined at our sister Phoenix Union High School District schools Carl Hayden and Maryvale.

It is going to be an amazing year for us at the LAEA. Your favorite and award winning faculty and staff are back to prepare you for success in college, career, and life. The Phoenix business community in the form of the Social Venture Partners have invested $10,000 in our school for the second year in a row because they believe in you as much as I do. We will use the funds to recognize exemplary attendance, student achievement and success every week and at end of term assemblies. So, do well and it is very likely you will earn great incentives including, professional sporting event tickets, Bluetooth technology clocks and speakers or clothing items; so you look sharp for that college or job interview. Additionally, we have been selected to engage in Participatory Budgeting. You will have the opportunity to make decisions that will affect our LAEA campus and community with a budget of several thousand dollars. You can expect your teachers and me to exemplify the core values of commitment, consciousness, courage, creativity, collaboration, and compassion. Students that exemplify these core values routinely can also expect to be recognized this year.

The Linda Abril Educational Academy is a school of hope and love where everybody matters. You will walk through the front doors very soon and begin the final stages of your K-12 education. My hope for you is that you not only graduate at the soonest possible date, but are prepared for success at the college or the trade school of your choice. Just as the faculty and staff will, I expect you to demonstrate our core values every day.  Be committed to your education. Be conscious of the importance of regular attendance. Be courageous and take a stand against bullying. Be creative when finding solutions to roadblocks and obstacles. Be collaborative with teachers and peers. Be compassionate with others. If you live by these six core values, you will not only achieve your academic and personal goals but also be a better person.

When you come to school this year, know that you will be loved. In loco parentis is Latin for “in the place of the parent.” Every faculty and staff member will show compassion, love and care about you as if you are their own son or daughter. All I ask of you is that you come to school every day and do your very best.  Your parents or guardians work hard at their jobs to see that you have the best they can provide.  Your job is to pay them back with good attendance, good grades and a high school diploma.

Enclosed you will find the following forms:

    ·        First Semester School Calendar 2017-18

    ·        Bell Schedule

    ·        Online Lunch Information Letter

Remember everybody matters at LAEA. I am looking forward to meeting each and every one of you and developing a professional relationship with you. Be prepared to introduce yourself to me and state your target graduation date. Please enjoy the final days of your summer vacation. I will see you on the first day of school, August 7th when you pick up your schedule. Do not be late. Rise Phoenix Rise!

    Sincerely Yours,

    Mr. Eric D. Kemp
