Hi! I am Susan Soto, Professional Development Specialist for South Mountain High School.

I love South and I really enjoy my position here! I work with amazing people and I get to interact with the entire staff by incorporating strategies that increase student achievement. Together we work towards improving the lives of our students through education and being caring adults to each student and colleague. Professional Development is rewarding for everyone: certified, classified, administrative and the students!

I previously taught at Cesar Chavez High School for 17 years. I taught Spanish and served as the School Improvement Chairperson. In addition to teaching Advanced Placement courses, I was the Instructional Leader, PLC Leader, worked with Elevate Phoenix and the Peer Leadership Program, and worked in professional development. I was the Cesar Chavez High School Teacher of the Year in 2005 and 2011, and nominated for the Arizona Teacher of the Year in 2007 and 2009.

In 2002 I created the Senior Portfolio and the Senior Portfolio Show. The Senior Portfolio and the Senior Portfolio Show showcase all seniors' academic, extracurricular and community services accomplishments. From 2005-2016 we celebrated the Cesar Chavez High School Senior Portfolio Show, and in 2017 we started the Senior Portfolio and Senior Portfolio Show here at South Mountain High School. South Mountain High School joined CCHS to celebrate the "South Phoenix High Schools Senior Portfolio Show" on May 3, 2017 at Talking Stick Resort Arena. Both schools now celebrate their individual Portfolio Shows on their own campuses. All seniors continue to showcase their amazing abilities!  Senior English Teachers at both campuses are in charge of all coordinating efforts.
