ABOUT THE PRINCIPALKeoni Dang has been named the new principal of the Phoenix Union-Wilson College Prep High School, set to open in August. The school is the first high school of its kind in the world designed to provide AVID Secondary College Readiness to all students.
Dang, who was an assistant principal for instruction at Alhambra, is preparing for the opening of the high school at 30th Street and Fillmore in a building leased from Wilson District. The school will begin with a freshman class. Dang has an extensive background in AVID, a college readiness system designed to provide students in the academic with structure and support, access to rigorous curriculum and preparation for entrance into a four-year university. He has been an AVID teacher, coordinator and staff developer and national trainer. Dang was an assistant principal at Metro Tech, and was a professional development specialist and math teacher at Betty Fairfax, where he began his 10-year career with Phoenix Union. He also participated in the Rodel Foundation Aspiring Principal program.
